Fed: Greens more signfiicant than One Nation: Beazley
Opposition Leader KIM BEAZLEY says One Nation's vote in the West Australian election
has been over-rated and will mean little for the federal poll later this year.
Mr BEAZLEY says just one seat could be described as changing hands on the basis of
One Nation preferences.
But, he says, lessons can be learned from the higher-than-usual number of people who
had given their vote to third parties.
One Nation had benefited from that, as had the Greens and other independents.
Mr BEAZLEY says One Nation's vote was lower than it had been in the 1998 federal election
and had been highest in the seats that didn't change hands.
He says under leader PAULINE HANSON, One Nation had recorded a modestly poor performance.
A federal election is expected in October or November although no date has yet been set.
